March is Women’s History Month, which celebrates the vital role of women in American history. Poplar Springs Christian Church is celebrating every Sunday throughout the month. This year’s theme for Women’s History Month is “Women United In Strength.”

Dr. Mary Morgan

Dr. Mary Morgan was educated in the Raleigh Public Schools. She holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Southeastern Seminary and a Doctorate in Psychology degree. Dr. Morgan has traveled to Jamaica with Shaw University and the National Institute of Health to help identify men with prostate cancer. She has also served as assistant dean of undergraduate studies at the Apex School of Theology. 

Dr. Morgan is married to Thomas L. Morgan, and they have three sons: Reginald, Maurice, and Thomas. 

Rev. Cynthia Jacko Wise

Rev. Cynthia S. Jacko Wise is a native of Lake Charles, La. Rev. Wise studied at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies with a minor in Psychology. During the second year of her Master’s in Counseling program, her plans to become a Marriage and Family Therapist were divinely interrupted when she received God’s call as an Evangelist. 

Post-graduation, she enrolled in seminary at Duke Divinity School and was conferred the Masters of Divinity degree. During her academic tenure at Duke, she served as Director of Music of the Gospel Choir and received the Seminarian Award of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts.  

Rev. Wise is married to her seminary sweetheart, Rev. Reginald E. Wise.

Rev. Dr. Rhonda Wright is currently serving as a member of the ministerial staff at Poplar Springs Christian Church in Raleigh, NC, under Pastor Charles Brooks’s leadership. She received her B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Saint Augustine’s College (now Saint Augustine’s University), Raleigh, N.C., in May 2000. Rev. Wright then received her graduate degree from North Carolina Central University, Durham, N.C, earning her M.A. in Public Administration in 2007. In May 2019, she received her Doctoral Degree in Ministry from Apex School of Theology.

One of Rev. Wright’s favorite Bible quotes is Philippians 4:13 (KJV), “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

A native New Yorker and lover of the people of God, Elder Jackie Benston has served in ministry for over 30 years. Her focus is on women’s ministry with an emphasis on emotional and mental wholeness. She is a powerful and encouraging speaker that brings forth a message of hope and truth.

Rev. Benston has four children and one granddaughter and loves spending free time with her family.
